To my readers:
Many of you have asked when my next book will be coming out. I actually began writing it soon after the release of Twisted, then cancer happened, followed by a disabling neuromuscular disease, and now here we are, two years later.
The good news is that there is a new book. The bad news is that there were so many times when I could barely lift my hands to the keyboard or, for that matter, my head to see the screen. Still, I was determined, and during the moments I felt strong enough, I did my best to work on it, a lot of those times from a hospital bed.
But as some of you might know, when it comes to my work I’m obsessed with quality, and I’ll never slap something together just to keep relevant in this market. You mean far too much to me, and I refuse to give you anything but my absolute best. Thankfully, my publisher not only understands this—they’ve graciously stood behind me one hundred percent, patiently allowing the time I’ve needed to recover and live up to that standard.
I’m extremely proud of this novel. It’s special to me. Not more than any of the previous ones but maybe in a different way. I've written it under the most challenging of circumstances and hope my passion, my drive, will translate onto those pages.
That said, I want to thank you for your patience while awaiting my fifth novel. Although I’m excited to tell you the manuscript is nearing completion, once I turn it in there’s a somewhat lengthy production process that follows. I don’t yet have a publication date, but as soon as I do, I’ll be sure to let you know.
"Darkness & Shadows is more than a thriller. It's an intoxicating mystery about lost love. It's literary fiction at its finest that's filled with emotional scenes that made me scream, cry, and clutch my hand to my heart. It's goddamn funny. It's layered and complex with engaging chapters that read with such fluidity that I'm filled with snarling jealousy at Andrew's skill. "
-Jessica Park, New York Times bestselling author of Flat-Out-Love and Left Drowning
"Andrew Kaufman goes the extra mile when it comes to authenticity, and just when you think you have seen it all in crime fiction, a guy like this comes along and knocks your socks off."
- Robert W. Walker, critically acclaimed author of over fifty novels, including the Edge and Instinct Series.
"Sometimes an author's first book is such perfection, you wonder if he/she is capable of creating another book that even comes close. Andrew Kaufman had no such problem with his second book. This novel of psychological suspense is a masterpiece. This story reached into the depths of my emotions, squeezed, and didn't let go...The gasping you'll do will come from the way Kaufman steps into your mind and takes control. "
- Darcia Helle author of The First Kill , Enemies and Playmates, Into the Light
"Intricate and unique plot, realistic and believable characters, mind blowing twists and turns--this is what readers will get in this thrilling novel from Andrew E. Kaufman. You will not want to put it down. It is just that good."
